My Take On KILL DIL - 'Doesn't Shine Except For A Few Bright Moments'

Kill Dil directed by Shaad Ali carries the potential of being an engaging masala potboiler but fails to justify its genre. It neither succeeds as an action flick nor attracts from its romantic angle. The screenplay suffers from tacky twists n becomes tirelessly predictable. Also it drags mostly in its first half although some portions are laugh worthy. There is nothing new in it to be very honest. The director's competency is tested here and sadly Shaad does not live up to make it compelling. His biggest letdown is the climax that seems abruptly unconvincing. But Kill Dil is not entirely unwatchable. It has its moments that hit the right chord. The bromance between Ranveer Singh & Ali Zafar is delightful. Govinda has some scenes that are both thrilling & entertaining. Performance wise, Ranveer is very good in the film. He is fully energetic, does have a super comic timing, impresses in emotional parts as well. His romantic angle with Parineeti works in a scene or two, otherwise fizzles out. Ali Zafar comes out well too. He connects nicely with Ranveer and gives him the much required support. Parineeti isn't bad but we have seen her doing fabulous roles in past. She is just okay in this male centric drama. Govinda as antagonist surprisingly has nothing much to do. It was expected from the film's trailer that he's gonna steal the show but its not the case here. He is wonderful and expresses both humor and anguish with panache but unfortunately is given an ineffectively irrelevant character. He deserved a better written role. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is only decent. Among the numbers, the title track, Bol Beliya and Nakhriley are my picks.
Thus overall, Kill Dil can be seen once for time pass. Then you may not be disappointed completely. In general, it is strictly mediocre that could have been more enjoyable if better made.

My Rating - 2.5/5

Watch it with low expectations!
