My Take On GUNDAY - 'Stale, Old Fashioned Yet Worth Watching For Some Riveting Moments'

Gunday has been inspired from many 70-80's action potboilers that draw focus on bromance between the two leads and their love with the female protagonist who has some other intentions. What drama takes place then and how it concludes  with a few twists which sadly are predictable here. The plot hardly offers anything new. But still there are portions where Gunday is filled with captivating scenes. The screenplay isn't consistently engaging as the film's 1st half drags for the most part and becomes a tad long plus occasionally tiring. The second half provides momentum but due to the technical flaws in the script Gunday comes out as partly thrilling. The director couldn't impart a proper shape to the plot that effectively. However, its not entirely unwatchable as there are some fun elements coupled with fantastic one-liners resulted in giving some genuinely top moments. Another merit of the film is the first rate performances this film witnesses, especially from Irrfan Khan and Ranveer Singh. Ranveerentertainer f his fine form and delivers a superb portrayal of Bikram. He shines in every scene he appears in. Arjun Kapoor, the other lead tries hard and succeeds partly as the hot headed Bala. He needs to improve his acting mainly in handling the emotional parts well. But he oozes with sheer confidence. Arjun & Ranveer's chemistry is one of the prime highlights of this film. Priyanka is strictly okay and has nothing much to do in this men oriented saga. Anyway she looks ravishingly sexy. And last but not the least, the invariably brilliant Irrfan Khan has once again nailed it with a compelling turn as the witty cop. He surely is the best of them all.
Music of the film is good and songs like Tune Maari Entriyaan & Jashn e Ishqa stand out. Film's action is nicely shot. However the film is too long and could have been crisply edited. The direction by Ali Abbas Zafar is uninspiring.
Thus overall, GUNDAY won't be a memorable actioner like Karan Arjun. But never the less its a decent one time watchable entertainer if you lessen your anticipation.
My Rating :- 2.5/5
Watch it but don't expect much!
